I'm sitting here in my living room at home and I am feeling both quite pleased with myself, yet also in a slight bit of a funk. First off, let me say yay! I think that I sorted the problem with the flooding in the basement out. I went down to the rental store to hire an industrial strength drain snake and a dehumidifier and it was delivered (an hour late) today. We got it all ready to go and started mucking around in the clogged drain only to have the pump suddenly kick in and have it drain itself. Apparently, the pump had somehow gotten unseated and the float had become wedged against the wall. Since this couldn't move, that meant no water going out. Once freed, the pump kicked right in and water was flowing right out to the sewer on the streets. Too bad I didn't discover this before hiring the drain snake at €35 a day. On the other side of the coin, at least I get to listen to the small hurricane in my basement for about a week as I try to get the damp out of the house. This device really sounds like the loudest server room that I have had to work in, or for those of you who never have had the joy of being surrounded by the endless whir of computer cooling fans, imagine a hairdryer on high blowing incessantly for about a week. Thank goodness I will be away in the UK for most of it.
I also managed to get my defective router replaced today so I am back on that darned tootin, internet thingamajig again. So that makes me happy. I was so happy that I almost ran out and bought a drill to hang my new coat rack (and the last thing that I have not yet assembled from the most recent IKEA run) but I thought better of it once I discovered that I was overpaid this month by my account-ants. I hate having to pay money back to my work. Boo! I also discovered that I had an overdue bill from my tax preparer that I paid, only to discover 20 minutes later that I had another one come today in the mail. I felt like James Brown "Double up. Ungh! Ungh!" So much for the hardest working man in my business. LOL
I even managed to unpack some boxes from my move today. I have a few more miscellaneous ones left but for the majority of them are done. Oh, I guess that I lied when I said the last of the IKEA is assembled. I still have two closets in the guest room that need to get reassembled (minus instructions and the magic IKEA wrench) but I think that I might tackle that project tomorrow.
I just found out that my friend is in a comedy contest and made it to the final round, which is tonight. I would really like to go support him and lend my laughs, but I feel funky and not in a good way. I haven't been sleeping well the past week and despite the fact that I don't have to work tomorrow, I think that I might just have a quiet night at home for a change. I know that I'll be out tomorrow night and I might want to save myself for a big night then.
Please forgive any typos in this post, but they may have reason to
be there. First off, I am typing this while enjoying free Guinness in
the airport lounge while waiting for my flight home. The laptop here is
a P.O.S. that I may have ranted about before. The touchpad is on crack
and just plain sucks. Also, I have had about 4 hours sleep in the past
two and a half days. I pulled an all nighter on Monday packing mah shit
for my move and last night I got home around one and then had to be up
by four to get to the airport on time. Add to the fact that I was
forced to get all hopped up on mothballs caffeine to
stay awake, and it is Africa Hot here in the lounge as the airco is
broken and you sort of get the picture. Did I mention the really loud
Spanish guy on the mobile? Muy Loco.
So the move to the new place is well underway. In fact most
everything is there already and much of it is unboxed. It is great
having someone else's fiancee living there. Since Emily hasn't started
work yet, she has had all sorts of time to cook and clean. Heck, she
even sewed a patch on my scooter jacket for me. If she wasn't already
taken, I would be making a move myself. As if that wasn't enough, last
night while I met a friend for dinner, she went gangbusters unpacking
and pretty much set up my whole new kitchen. I left the house a
shambles of unopened boxes and came home to a well stocked eatery.
Hooray!
When I get home tonight I need to do some major (expletive damn
touchpad) unpacking as I have to find my camera. It got packed away in
haste and it is so small that it is hard to find on its own. But I need
it to take pictures at the WORLD CUP. That is right sukkas I am going
to match #2 (LOL I said Number Two) and after that I head back to
Amsterdam only to catch a flight to Prague to meet up with my AZ
homies. Should be a whole lotta fun.
